We sort of started in May looking for our new adoption agency. Mike chatted w/ a couple of agencies we previously interviewed and were unsure of. First thing that came to me was an international adopt. seminar at BCS on May 11. Researched before hand. Had an eye on S. Korea with an open mind to all/any possibilities.
Was very impressed with the social worker leading the seminar and greatest interest afterwards was in S. Korea. Had a couple of questions about Tawain.
Mary called a couple of weeks later, Tawain wasn't a fit. We were prequalified by the S. Korea dept. head....only thing was, their quota had been filled for the year. Mary had a family who possibly had to drop out of the program. She would know in a couple of weeks.
She called me a week early. We were in. A spot opened up and it was ours if we wanted it. No pressure, no rush.
Within a week we started our application. That was June.
July followed with doctors exam, formal application and medical forms.
August we are done with formal app. References will be notified soon for letters. We have had 3 our of our 4 meetings for our homestudy. All in the last few weeks. Also received receipt from USCIS Detroit about our request for a free extension. We really lucked out again, we were one month away from expiring our approved petition to adopt an orphan internationally. Originally Kazakhstan. One free extension and one free country change allowed within the original 18 mo window. If finalized it will save us $830 plus a lot of red tape and time. Wahoo!
Next up, more paperwork, nothing too haried. The most detailed being our financial data. Then our 4th home study meeting early September. Our house.
Everything has been falling into place. It feels right.
