Weekend Away

This past weekend we spent up in Bellaire, Mi with Mom & Dad. We got merry Fri night at Short's brew pub where I fell in love with their brown ale. We drank a plenty and feasted on artichoke dip and a loaded pizza, well done. Good fun. Saturday we drove to Traverse City and hit the town, rain and all. Cherry Republic was fun. Got some good cherry sauces and salsa. Browsed the shops, ate at another pub, drove on up to Sutton's Bay for more touring and caught sight of a rainbow over the bay. It was a full day. Mike made pasta w/ sausage and peppers and we watched The Brothers Bloom. Loved it! Sunday Mom hiked a bit and Dad watched football while Mike and I ventured out for more touring. We did Brownstone where we tried more homemade goodness, hits some shops and art galleries and had lunch at The Weathervane in Charlevoix. We popped into their gorgeous library and learned a bit about Earl Young who built all the wonderful stone houses with the undulating roofs. So charming. My favorite is the mushroom house near the library and we fell in love with the castle house on the lake by the bridge. Took another scenic route home around the west side of Torch Lake. Now we see why Nat. Geographic once said it is one of the top 3 lakes in the world. Pretty crazy, but the lake was turquoise in color against the fall colors of the trees. So cool.
Sunday Mom & Mike and I hiked the Grass Lake Natural Area, again in the rain, but it was wonderful. I took tons of photos. Couldn't help myself. It was good to be out in the fresh air for awhile. We headed to East Lansing to pick up the dog and then home.
Upon arriving home we had received our fingerprint appointments in the mail. Set for next Monday! Sweet. Mary just told me it should be arriving soon and there it was. Good news.
